RFID
- micro chips in transportation material
Radio Frequency Identification, or “RFID”, is a technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify objects – such as crates, pallets, commodities etc.
Each RFID tag contains a unique Electronic Product Code (EPC), which is a kind of “license plate” of the tagged item. The EPC holds very detailed information, as it combines information on the manufacturer and the type of object along with a specific serial number that relates to the particular item being monitored.
Container Centralen recognises that this technology is the key to superior and optimised transport and logistics in the future, and has therefore built RFID into some of the more recent product developments. Furthermore, from January 10, 2011, a padlock with a built-in RFID-chip has been mounted on all existing CC Containers. Container Centralen regularly updates the ID tags on the CC Containers to protect the CC Pool System from illegal containers. The current ID tag makes the identification of CC Containers easier and has the added benefit of potential optimization of logistics.
RFID tags applied to Returnable Transport Items (RTIs) is the foundation upon which future possibilities for “Track & Trace” are built. When the RFID tags are “read” by a scanner (handheld or gate) the EPC information can then be used to integrate product flow information into the users IT management systems.

Applying RFID tags to Returnable Transport Items (RTIs) makes it possible to optimise your logistics even further by reducing the need for manual registration of your product and RTI flow.
